Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) November 18, 2011
Pinnacle Yachts today announced the acquisition and arrival of the largest, and quite possibly, the fastest sailing yacht ever to grace Chicago's lakefront.
To be christened “Ocean”, her stunning deep blue hull measures 85 feet from stem to stern, her mast stands nearly 100 feet, and her largest sail measures 5,000 square feet. The yacht entirely built of high-tech carbon fiber.
Her cost to construct and outfit – $3.5 million.
The yacht has a pedigree of record-breaking performances and wins at many of the world's most prestigious regattas, including the Newport to Bermuda Race and the Chicago to Mackinac Race to name just a few. The boat has been clocked at 27 knots with a professional crew which is about four times faster than a conventional sailboat.
“Ocean” will be the featured yacht at the Progressive® Insurance Strictly Sail® Chicago Boat Show at Navy Pier on January 26-29, 2012.
"It's fitting that our wonderful city of Chicago has this renowned yacht to accentuate its beautiful skyline," said Pinnacle Yachts founder Patricia Feracota.
"Ocean" is the flagship and 27th boat of the Pinnacle Yachts Fleet in Chicago. She will be sailed by members of Pinnacle Yachts through the firm's shared-yacht program in major race regattas as well as on fast cruises to distant ports-of-call on Lake Michigan.
Long-time Pinnacle Yachts member and veteran yachtsmen Jim Banovitz said “I'm thrilled to be part of Pinnacle's performance sailing program and to have the opportunity sail very fast with a great group of people on this incredible yacht.”
“Ocean” will also be chartered though the Pinnacle Foundation which donates all proceeds to small charitable organizations in the Chicago area.
